Filmpremiere: „Kuckuck! The Story of Red Vienna, Then and Now“
Am 20.10. laden wir um 18:30 Uhr zur Filmpremiere von „Kuckuck! The Story of Red Vienna, Then and Now“, ins Vorwärts-Haus, bei welcher auch der Regisseur, Carl Rowlands, sowie einige der im Film befragten ExpertInnen wie Georg Spitaler (VGA), zugegen sein werden.

Kurzbeschreibung: In 1919, Red Vienna was born. Up until 1934, the Viennese socialists created a template that still exists in bricks and mortar today and still remains an example to those looking for alternatives around the world.
Starting at the heart of the social issues afflicting the working classes – the lack of decent housing – and working outwards to evolve a health system, a city-wide welfare state, and an evolved education system with support for culture, this is the story of Red Vienna. It is the story of urbanism with human development at its heart.
The revolutions attempted in Vienna were a set of transformations of an urban environment inspired by specific, Marxist-inspired values. Theoretical radicalism was channeled into physical design of facilities, institutional structures and cultural formations.
In these four short segments we tour the city and examine the living, breathing legacy of Red Vienna, from the smallest remnants, to the most ornate and glittering monuments to the working class of 1920s Vienna. We will aim to show a modern city that is living and breathing in the space that these innovations provided, and the continued tension between possibilities and constraints.
